Unqualified Clinic Surgery Kills Dalit Mother in Shocking Incident

Munishra Rawat, 38, a mother of three from the Dalit community, died after an unlicensed clinic owner and his nephew attempted to operate on her gallbladder stones—allegedly following a YouTube tutorial while intoxicated.

The tragedy occurred between December 4 and 5, 2025, at Shri Damodar Aushdhalaya, an unauthorized clinic near Kothi police station run by Gyan Prakash Mishra. Munishra, in severe abdominal pain, was brought there by her husband, Tej Bahadur Rawat.

After a dubious ultrasound, Mishra demanded Rs 25,000 (Sh 35,574) for immediate surgery, claiming other doctors had refused. “He said the stones had worsened and he had called other doctors, but no one came. So he performed the surgery himself, saying he had learned it from social media,” Tej Bahadur said.

Mishra, assisted by his nephew Vivek Kumar Mishra—an Ayurvedic practitioner—fatally damaged Munishra’s intestines, stomach nerves, and esophagus. She died the next day.

The incident sparked outrage online, with users calling it a “normal day in Vimal Estate” and lamenting, “…it happens only in India…”.

Police confirmed Gyan Prakash Mishra has no medical credentials and the clinic is unregistered. Authorities have filed charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and violations of the SC/ST Act.

Both accused fled after locking the clinic. Villagers and the family protested, demanding justice, while officials promised strict action.
